A COMMUNITY ASSETT
The Mission
Our aim is to establish the River Colne as a community asset, capitalising on work and progress made
over the last 12 years.
The River Colne and its tributaries will form the core
of a multi-use semi-natural corridor, highly valued by the local community as a recreational, cultural and environmental resource.
As such, access routes will be developed and maintained to a high standard, its history and culture celebrated and its wildlife
habitats extended and managed as part of an ecological network. All of the surrounding communities will play a fundamental
role in this development.
The Project Area
The project area includes the River Colne from its source in the Pennines to the confluence with the River Calder
at Cooper Bridge. The aim of this strategy is to focus on the River Colne although it is acknowledged that there are issues
to address in common to all the tributaries within the catchment.
Tributaries include the River Holme and Mag Brook, again with their
source in the Pennines, New Mill Dike and Fenay Beck, which rise in the Pennine foothills beyond Brockholes and Kirkburton,
respectively.
